Brings back memories. Working for a mail-order pharmaceutical company. One poor lass got a customer so deaf that she was trying, for an hour, to explain, through shouting, that the man's pills should arrive in three days. He thought they weren't coming, and was in tears, since that's what keeps him alive.

There was just no spelling around that problem, or paraphrasing. Just a lot of painful failed attempts with the full support of exasperated management.

At some point, you want to not only get them to someone who can take a teletype call... but you want to give them the equipment!

Yeah it's really tough working with people who can't hear well over the phone... I don't look forward to being one of those deaf people some day. I do hope that I will understand what's happening, though.
