my maneki neko
July 4, 2004

I know. . . I've been a bad grrl! I haven't updated in a couple days. But, I went to visit the parents over the weekend. . . and forgot the data cable to my camera. And I didn't have my laptop, so I didn't have any backup pics that I could have used. Oh well. Such is life.

I don't have anything for this past Photo Friday Challenge anyway. But, like I said I was without computer and cable. . . Bad me! :-)

So, to make up for it (not really), I have posted my very first attempt at making my very own Maneki Neko (legend told with pic of store-bought neko). I know, it's not painted very well. . . But I forgot to get a really fine brush. So, tell me what you think! I want your honest opinion!

This one differs from the other one I have because this one has its right paw up, where that one has its left paw up. The right paw beckons money and good fortune, while the left beckons good luck and fate.

I suppose that I will tell about the colors of the Maneki Neko, since I told one of the legends last time.

Really brief:
Tri-colored=luck;
White= purity;
Black=talisman against evil;
Red=exorcises evil;
Gold/yellow=beckons money;
Pink=beckons love.

I have come across purple, and green ones on the internet, but I don't know what they stand for. . . they might be those colors just to be pretty *shrugs.*

And the height of their paw indicates how lucky, or beckoning they are. The higher the paw, the more will come (be it money, customers, or visitors). Higher is not necessarily a good thing!

Either way, I have babbled enough!

Enjoy!
