". . . I really REALLY think you should take more macros," a friend of mine once told me. "because I think you're good at taking details. . . of still objects," she said. "You're good at picking out colors too so I think you might want to try pictures of random colors and compositions."
So, I think I shall try. Although, I still find myself obsessing about the lights and shadows (but I guess that just comes with photography). And of course, before I did any of that, I had to ask her what a "macro" meant in the photography world! In said world, I guess it means "close-up." I was confused when she said it because I had always heard it used as follows: "macro- adj.: very large in scale or scope or capability. . .; noun: a single computer instruction that results in a series of instructions in machine language. . ." (WordNet (r) 2.0). Not to mention, it's the name of the company I work for, so of course I thought of that first! :-)
Anyway, I set up these compact jewel cases on a windowsill in the sun. I found that getting a good pic was difficult because they kept falling over, and I would get the house next door in the pic (couldn't have that now, could I). Sometimes, I even got the overhang of my own roof in the shot! That just wouldn't do at all! But, I think that this particular shot came out pretty well.
Enjoy!
